As winter weather and high winds moved across western Pennsylvania on Tuesday, thousands of people were without power.
A brief wintry mix moved into Tuesday morning but quickly turned to rain — causing muddy roads and delaying the opening of hundreds of schools and businesses.
At the peak of the outages, Duquesne Light had more than 5,000 customers without power and West Penn Power had more than 20,000 customers. Crews worked through the night to restore service, and by 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, those numbers were down to fewer than 100 customers for Duquesne Light and 8,100 customers for West Penn Power.
