Youth Lagoon has released a new song titled “Football,” which is his first new music since last year Heaven is a junkyard. The track, available as a limited edition 7″ via Fat Possum, finds Trevor Powers reuniting with the album’s co-producer Ruddid MacDonald. Check out Caleb Halter's visual below.
“Football is actually a celebration of failure,” Powers explained in a statement. “Society has a terrible habit of only acknowledging accomplishments while greatness is hidden in the shadows. We are so busy trying to gain love, worth, and value that we forget that it is something we already inherently possess. I wanted to play with this idea through the lens of sports, because sports are the true religion in In many ways. When I was young, this was the only way I knew how to communicate with my parents. We didn't have much in common, but we could throw the ball around. There were rules and rituals that we could see eye to eye with. We didn't have to argue about Who was right and who was wrong. The difference in my family was that it didn't matter how good I was. Just throwing the ball was company. It didn't matter if I caught it. I loved my father for that.”
