Is the stock market open on New Year's Day?
US stock exchanges and other financial markets in most parts of the world will be closed on Monday for the New Year holiday. Furthermore, fixed income traders are getting a jump on the New Year celebrations, with industry group SIFMA recommending US bond markets close an hour earlier on Friday at 2pm ET.
Investors will begin 2024 on Tuesday with full trading sessions. Bulls will try to build on the positive momentum on Wall Street at the end of 2023. The Dow Jones Industrial Average posted seven record closes in December, including on Thursday, December 28, while the S&P 500 SPX entered the final session of the year with a difference of just 0.3% from its close. The S&P 500 rose more than 24% in 2023, rebounding from the 2022 rout triggered when the Federal Reserve's aggressive rate-hiking campaign sent bond yields soaring.
Will USPS, FedEx, and UPS still deliver?
The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail, and local post offices will be closed on New Year's Day. However, Priority Express Mail will be delivered.

Is Costco open on New Year's Day?
A select number of large retailers and grocery stores, including Costco COST, are closed.

Public and private schools do not typically open on January 1, because the holiday is part of the longer winter break.
