Here's the Sunday night forecast for December 31, 2023 from the Minnesota Weather Service and meteorologist Matt Serroy.
No matter what you do tonight, please have a safe and happy start to 2024! If you're going out tonight in the Twin Cities, expect more clouds than stars. It will be dry, but wind chills will be in the low to mid teens. All you need is a typical winter jacket. If you are out very Late tonight, you might wake up late enough that you'll only see Monday's sun. These clouds are supposed to dissipate late Monday morning, and the sun will allow temperatures to rise to less than 30 degrees Celsius.
There is a chance of scattered freezing rain Tuesday morning. This may be the first day back to work or school since Christmas for some of you, so keep in mind that there may be some slippery spots that morning. By midweek, temperatures in the Twin Cities will reach highs in the 20s for the first time in more than two weeks. If you're hoping to see more snow, enough to have some fun outside, don't hesitate next weekend. At this point, I'm expecting light snow, but you can always hope for that.
