Redmond, Washington – The City of Redmond is seeking applicants for one available seat on the Arts and Culture Commission. The current vacancy on the commission is open to individuals who live or work within the city limits of Redmond with zip code 98052 or live in unincorporated King County with zip code 98053. The city is committed to having a commission that reflects diverse community perspectives and encourages those with a passion for arts and culture to apply.
The Arts and Culture Commission continues to improve the quality of life in Redmond by advising staff and City Council on public programs that build community, celebrate diversity, and enhance the vitality and identity of Redmond through the performing, visual, and participatory arts. The committee's current work plan includes advising staff and City Council on arts development in Redmond through the Poet Laureate Program, the Cultural Arts Grant Program, the Downtown Redmond Art Walk, and more. The committee will also make recommendations on several upcoming public art projects in Redmond.
Arts and Culture Committee meetings are mandatory for all members and are held in person at Redmond City Hall with the option to join virtually via Microsoft Teams on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm in addition to monthly meetings. Commissioners participate in special committees and attend public meetings and events. They work to develop community engagement around Parks and Recreation Department projects and programs and occasionally attend City Council and other committee meetings. The committee also engages with the broader community so it can represent the interests of community members before the City Council. All board and committee members are volunteers and serve three-year terms.
