Motorists travel along the southbound lanes of Interstate 25 after a winter storm dumped up to a foot of snow in the Capital Region on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2021, in Denver.

A storm hitting metro Denver Monday morning will bring snow and wind, creating difficult driving conditions, the National Weather Service said.

Up to 4 inches of snow will fall south of Interstate 70, and winds could gust up to 55 mph, forecasters said, advising residents to “avoid or delay travel until this afternoon if possible.” Road conditions are expected to be particularly difficult this morning across the southern metro area in the Palmer Divide area between Denver and Colorado Springs and in the southern Front Range foothills where strong winds are blowing snow. Most of the snow is expected to fall before noon.

Forecasters said this stormy weather will likely bring up to 7 inches of snow along Interstate 25 near Castle Rock, and blizzard conditions including white snow are likely as wind blows snow onto Colorado's eastern plains.

The Weather Service has issued a winter weather warning for metro Denver, a winter storm warning for Castle Rock and the eastern Plains, a blizzard warning for southeastern Colorado, and a high wind warning for the I-25 corridor between Colorado Springs and Pueblo and the Southeast. Plains.

The high temperature in metro Denver on Monday will reach 30 degrees, dropping to 15 degrees Monday night, meteorologists said.

More much-needed snow is expected in the southwestern mountains. In north metro Denver north of I-70, forecasters expected less snow.
