Future plans and growth for downtown Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Whether you're a Corpus Christi native or just stopping in from out of town, you'll want to make time to visit downtown.

The area has seen many changes over the past few years, and it is a very different landscape from a decade ago and beyond.

Officials with the Downtown Management District said there is more to look forward to this year!

There is a lot of conversation about downtown development, said Alyssa Barrera-Mason, executive director of the Downtown Management District.

“We have a lot of new projects in development downtown right now including the new Homewood Suites, renovating an old hotel into a Holiday Inn Express, as well as renovating Foreman Plaza into a mixed-use building called The Foundry.” Mason said. “We have a lot of new businesses in the process of opening up.”

Terry Moore, owner of local business Wildflowers, hopes Corpus Christi residents appreciate downtown as much as tourists do.

“I think it's great that visitors come downtown and eat here and shop here, and it's natural because we're near the water and its beauty,” Moore said. “I think it's the locals that need a change; the locals need to appreciate how beautiful our bay front is and enjoy our downtown more.”

Like all things, growing downtown will take time and planning, but both women said that through it all, downtown is one of their favorite places.
