Derek Beasley has predictions for Thursday night (4/1/2023)

    04:54

    Baltimore —

Tonight: It will be cold with mostly clear skies and temperatures in the 20s. Pack your bags if you plan to be out late!

Friday and Friday night: This will be the day of transformation. The day will start with sunshine but some high clouds will move in around sunset. Clouds will thicken during Friday night, but will remain dry. Temperatures will reach the low to upper 40s and then return to the 20s and 30s overnight.

*Winter Storm Watch* in effect for Carroll, Frederick, Washington, Allegany and Garrett from Saturday. Morning to Saturday. evening.

Saturday and Saturday night: The storm system will track west of us toward the area early Saturday morning. Rain and snow will spread to the area by mid-to-late morning from the south. Expect rain mainly east of I-95. Along I-95, it will start out as snow or a rain/snow mix and then change to full rain. It looks like change will happen a little faster in areas near I-95. Snow will remain in areas closest to the PA border and entering western Maryland longer into Saturday evening, leading to the potential for better snow accumulation.

About an inch of snow is expected in Baltimore City, with an inch or two in central and northern Baltimore County.

UPDATED SNOW TOTALS: Warmer model trend means less snow in Baltimore. About an inch for the city…an inch or two for central and north Baltimore. Larger totals are closer to I-81. The transition from mix to rain will be quicker and earlier near I-95. #mdwx pic.twitter.com/E5qzHc9pX9

Rain may be heavy at times, causing minor flooding in some areas. Snow will continue to fall longer from North Carroll to Frederick Co. and across western Maryland where significant snow accumulations may occur, especially near I-81.

Sunday: The rain and snow will end by early morning. Expect highs in the 40s.

Early next week: Monday looks dry, but rain chances return Tuesday with another stronger storm system. This storm could bring another round of wintry weather to western Maryland and possible heavy rain with strong winds elsewhere across the state. This storm appears to be much stronger than this weekend's storm and should be watched carefully.

Expect temperatures in the 40s and low 50s for most of next week.
