Bitfinex announces that it has taken the decision to remove the availability of our products and services in the UK for certain customers, in line with regulatory requirements.
We previously I reported Which UK residents who created a Bitfinex account on or after 1 November 2023 will not be eligible to apply for individual account verification. This measure will continue to remain in place.
To move forward, Bitfinex will no longer accept verification requests Big company Residents of the United Kingdom, except those who meet the definition of a High net worth corporation, association, unincorporated trust, or other applicable exemption.
The term “high net worth” has a specific definition under relevant legislation in the United Kingdom. If you are a UK resident company and are applying for verification, we may ask you for further information as part of your application to ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements as a high net worth company, unincorporated association or trust, or other applicable relevant company. Notice of removal of certain services to existing UK customers
From 10 January 2024, some existing UK clients will no longer be able to make any new deposits, enter into new contracts, or increase existing margin positions. However, they can continue to reduce or close their positions, and withdraw their funds from our platform.
Who is affected?
Two types of customers will be affected:
- All existing individual customers resident in the UK; And
- All existing UK resident corporate clients who are not exempt under the UK Financial Promotion Order, or any other relevant UK legislation. If we understand that you are not exempt, you will be separately notified by Bitfinex that as of January 10, 2024, you will no longer be able to make any new deposits, create new contracts, or increase existing margin positions. However, you will still be able to reduce or close your positions, and withdraw your funds from our platform.
Who is not affected?
If you are a UK resident company and meet the criteria as a high net worth company, association, unincorporated trust, or other applicable exemption, you will not be affected by these changes.
