The Joe Biden administration is reopening several border crossings that were previously closed due to the record influx of migrants.
A senior US official said that this step came in response to the decrease in the number of illegal immigrants in recent days and to free up staff to manage legal crossings.
The “decline” means, according to the Reuters report, from a high of about 11,000 in one day to an average of 6,400 over the past week.
Instead of keeping the crossings closed and continuing to combat illegal entry, perhaps reducing the numbers further, the Biden administration chose to withdraw them again.
One official laughably described this temporary decline as “historically declining migrant crossings between Christmas and New Year’s.”

Illegal border crossings have temporarily declined, so the Biden administration has reopened the gates
To put this in context, the Biden administration saw a rise in illegal immigration for weeks and months before finally closing these border crossings last month.
In fact, the reality is that they have policed the border and allowed it to be overrun for years now.
Since there was a “historic” decline between Christmas and New Year – one week later – they decided to reopen the border crossings again.
“Over the past year, we have witnessed periods of increased confrontations and periods of decreased confrontations,” the official said in a conference call with reporters. “We will continue to be prepared to respond to these types of increases.”

Karine Jean-Pierre: Biden is doing everything he can to secure the border
The reopened border crossings are in Eagle Pass, Texas, which has a well-documented history of invasion by illegal immigrants, as well as two sites in Arizona, where Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) just accused President Biden's administration of “refusing to do so.” “Its job is to secure our borders and keep our communities safe.”
The fourth is located near San Diego, California.
This news comes at a time when White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, claimed that President Biden was working tirelessly to secure the southern border, but that was thwarted by Republicans.
Clearly, doing everything Biden can to protect the border means asking the Supreme Court to allow Border Patrol agents to cut razor wire that Texas officials have installed to prevent illegal crossings.
The administration says the wire hinders Border Patrol agents from reaching migrants as they cross the river, and that federal immigration law should take precedence over Texas efforts to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the country.
The Supreme Court should laugh at the request while also pointing out that President Biden has not been interested in enforcing federal immigration law since the day he arrived in the White House.
