The weather this Sunday — one of the busiest travel days of the year — could impact those traveling on the road and heading to the airport after Thanksgiving.
Snow is expected to fall in Illinois, Indiana and northern Ohio on Sunday. It is possible to get one to three inches in Chicago.
Snow is expected to reach northern Pennsylvania and upstate New York by Sunday night.
Monday morning, snowfall will be limited to upper New England, where 3 to 12 inches of snow are possible.
One to three inches of rain will fall on roads along the East Coast from this holiday week storm across the country.
Heavy rain will continue Wednesday morning from Norfolk, Virginia, to Charleston, South Carolina.
In New England, rain is still falling in Boston and snow continues to fall in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The last bits of rain will leave New England by midnight.
Thursday will be a cold morning for Thanksgiving across the United States
Windy temperatures are expected to drop to 36 degrees in New York City, 35 degrees in Atlanta, 27 degrees in Chicago, and 24 degrees in Denver.
Meanwhile, a new storm is forming in the west. Rain will fall across most of Washington on Wednesday morning. It will spread across Idaho and Montana with scattered rain and snow on Wednesday.
Snow will arrive most of Thanksgiving morning in Wyoming. By Thanksgiving afternoon, snow will fall in Nevada and Utah.
Snow will arrive Thursday night in Colorado, including Denver, where intermittent snow showers will continue Friday morning.
Despite the severe weather, air travel is going smoothly so far ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Only 49 flights were canceled across the United States on Tuesday.
Airports in the Washington, D.C., and New York City areas may see some delays Tuesday evening as the storm continues along the East Coast.
Heavy rain and gusty winds will hit Atlanta, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C., Tuesday afternoon, impacting those traveling on the road to celebrate Thanksgiving.
By 7 p.m. Tuesday, the storms will be over in Atlanta. But in Charlotte, rain and wind will continue until 11 p.m. In the capital, heavy rain will fall from 5pm to 11pm on Tuesday.
In New York City, heavy rain will fall during Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Rain will continue north, reaching Boston by Wednesday morning.
The East Coast will dry out by 5 p.m. Wednesday, with rain and snow continuing to fall in Maine.
