The Gulf Coast is drenched in flood rains
A low pressure system moving over the Gulf Coast states will bring heavy rain to drought-stricken areas and increase the risk of flash flooding in Texas early in the week and into central Florida by mid-week.
The active pattern could bring several inches of rain to southeast Texas, southern Louisiana and Mississippi by midweek and even more rain this weekend.
Japan witnesses a deadly earthquake at the beginning of the new year
Search and rescue efforts continue Tuesday after a powerful earthquake rocked Japan on Monday, killing at least 48 people across the region.
The quake prompted evacuations and even major tsunami warnings following the 7.5 magnitude quake.
The early morning quake was felt northwest of Washington, D.C., from Maryland to Virginia
A small earthquake was reported early Tuesday morning in Rockville, Maryland, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). A 2.3 magnitude earthquake was reported at 12:51 a.m. EDT.
