Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy on her future in Star Wars: “What we are about to create is something very special” – Fantha Tracks

Speaking with CNN host Christy Lou Stout, Future star Wars Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has teased her next big screen project starring Daisy Ridley and we hope (and we can never assume until we're sitting in the cinema with a bucket of popcorn in our lap) that it will arrive in 2026.

“I'm thrilled about the project because I feel like what we're about to create is something very special. And now we're in the year 2024, and it's time for a woman to step forward and shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”

Although a May 2026 release would be very welcome, it would change the film in less than three years while juggling the other big screen projects Lucasfilm has on its slate (Dave Filoni's Mandoverse film, Shawn Levy's film, and James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi). . The project (but not limited to) will be a huge project. And since 2027 is the 50th anniversary of the original film – and now just three years later – perhaps that's a more realistic goal.
