Patchy fog and partly sunny skies on New Year's Day – KIRO 7 News Seattle

Good morning and happy new year!

The first day of 2024 brings mostly calm and mild conditions. A series of high pressure keeps temperatures near normal and dries out skies. However, patchy fog will develop across the central Kitsap Peninsula south through Mason, Pierce, Thurston and Lewis counties and vary in density. Additional areas of fog may also develop in valley locations or near bodies of water.

The morning fog will eventually clear by the afternoon as temperatures rise. Medium to high clouds will fill in the gaps as the next front moves in on Tuesday. This upcoming weather system looks rather weak and will bring moderate to light rain.

The next noteworthy weather system arrives Friday night. Rain is expected in lowlands, mountain snow and stormy winds. Snow levels on Friday and Saturday range between 2000-3000′. According to the National Mixture Model, probabilistic snow levels over extended areas reflect a 50% chance of snow levels near 500 degrees in many locations (particularly western Whatcom and Skagit counties) Sunday morning.

Snow levels on Tuesday will range from 2,500-3,500 feet, but due to limited precipitation with this system, no significant snow accumulations are expected even above pass levels.
