Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson expressed deep concerns about what he sees as escalating threats to former President Donald Trump, suggesting a development of dissent could eventually lead to an assassination attempt.
In an extensive discussion with former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino, Tucker Carlson looked at the litany of actions taken against Donald Trump since his time in office — from protests and impeachment to recent indictments — and hypothesized that the next step in an escalating sequence could be an assassination attempt.
“I mean, just draw it. And in Trump's case, they started with protests. They moved to impeachment. Now they're in indictment. None of it worked. What's next? What's likely to be next? If you really feel and believe, and a lot of them do, “The worst thing that could happen to the country, and more specifically to you in the professional class, is for Donald Trump to be president. Everything you've tried has failed. “They've accelerated the steps, the protests, the impeachment, the impeachment,” Carlson said.
“How many more arrows do you have in your quiver? And what's next? And of course it's assassination. Assassinations happen all over the world,” he added.
Carlson acknowledged raising the issue directly with Trump, noting that the former president did not discuss the issue. But he stressed that reality, as he sees it, requires confronting the possibility of such an extreme scenario directly.
“I said that directly to Trump, by the way, because he's very clear… and he hasn't talked to me at all about it. “I don't know what he's really thinking, but he's smart, so he should know this is true,” Carlson said.
