Are you ready for the real deal on travel writing and how do we find the best deals for air travel? We travel on the road at least once a month, and most of the time, we pay for transportation. Since we are a traveling couple, this doubles the bill.
We are also based in Huntsville, Alabama, historically the highest priced departure city in America due to the large number of business travelers and our unfortunate proximity to Florida and Nashville. We fly within walking distance of budget destinations, so airlines can't justify the routes.
It goes without saying that we are always looking for ways to save on the cost of airfare. Our actions and happiness depend on it. Fortunately, we found some tricks that we will pass on to you.
Travel guide is evil
Huntsville is a rocket city in the USA. You can't throw a slide rule in here without hitting a rocket scientist or math geek of some flavor. In this spirit, we will share the mathematical proof that travel is evil, which you may have seen before in relation to women's needs for time and money.
Statement: Traveling is evil
(1) Suppose travel takes time and money: Travel = time * money
(2) Suppose time is money: time = money
(3) Substituting (2) into (1) gives: Travel = Money * Money = Money ^2
(4) Remember that money is the root of all evil: Money = sqrt(Evil)
(5) Replacing (4) in (3) gives: Travel = (sqrt(Evil))^2 = Evil
Therefore, travel is evil. QED.
The only way to overcome this dilemma is to reduce your travel costs and the time it takes to find deals. That's where Dollar Flight Club comes into play. Based on your custom parameters, they can save you up to $500 per trip, and the deals are sent directly to your inbox. Plus, you can try the service for just $1 if you're interested.
How does dollar fly club work
Dollar Flight Club is not a booking service, just as Coleman Concierge does not book flights. Like us, they pass along useful and timely travel information, specifically in the form of airline ticket deal alerts that redirect you to other websites like Google Flights and Skyscanner. What's really great is that they have a US-based team that reviews deals before they're sent to you, so you don't have a bunch of automated fly-by-night alerts clogging up your inbox every time the price changes.
We are obsessed with emails because we receive about 1,000 messages in our inbox every day and we need to keep them clean for peace of mind. That's why we love that Dollar Flight Club stores all the currently active deals they find for us in our account. Gmail seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to organizing folders and ordering mail, but all we have to do is log into Dollar Flight to see the deals.
Flying club membership levels in dollars
Dollar Flight Club has three membership levels: Basic, PremiumAnd Premium Plus.
BasicAs the name suggests, it's very simple. You sign up, choose your home airport, and get some flight offers sent to your inbox. Since it's free, you'll get your money's worth, but you won't get all the offers or services, and you can only choose one airport. It's a good membership if you like to dream about travel and dip your toes into the pool of discounted airline tickets.
beloved It's a great place to start if you're serious about taking a trip. You can get all the wrong prices and deeply discounted international and domestic deals from up to four selected departure airports. Your $69 annual membership will be reimbursed for your first trip!
Premium Plus It gives you access to the cheapest business and premium economy deals when departing from your home airport, as well as a priority support team to help you with your travel questions. It's a premium service for people who have long graduated from training and won't blink at the $99 annual fee.
Dollar Flight Club is more than just a platform for finding flight deals
One of the things we love about being a travel influencer is all the amazing people we get to meet, like Jesse Newgarten, founder and CEO of Dollar Flight Club. Before we partnered with Jesse and his partners, we wanted to know what his company was all about. This is what he told us –
Dollar Flight Club is more than just a platform for finding flight deals; It is a gateway to amazing travel experiences. Our team works tirelessly to discover the best offers, and only sends out those that meet our high standards for quality and value. This value-focused approach is what sets us apart from the rest. We're on a mission to make travel convenient and affordable, especially with our focus on domestic flights for US-based customers. Our US-based team of travel experts looks forward to sharing their knowledge and helping you explore the world for less.
Other ways to save money on travel costs
For some people, the only thing between them and booking a flight is the price of a plane ticket. This travel hack is for the other 99% of the population. The world's best hotels and resorts have extra inventory and are offering deep discounts to people who are flexible with their travel plans, and here's how to get in on the game.
Create a “dream list” of your favorite holiday companies and find their travel deals page. For example:
- Sandals offers 65% off travel deals to Jamaica, Barbados and Curacao
- Sister company Beaches has similar offers if you're traveling with kids
- If you love cruises, Uncruise is running 15% off deals on its website for Alaska cruises right now, and you can sign up with Virgin to get exclusive offers in your inbox
- Are you looking for adventure travel? G Adventures has a page for last minute travel deals
- Stay in Playa del Carmen instead of the hotel zone in Cancun
We sign up for all of these things and more and get a steady stream of killer deals. If only we could find cheap flights.
Summer's buzzy deal: the best of both worlds
Imagine saving 65% off the stand price and $500 per ticket on your airfare. That's what you can do when you let Dollar Flight Club find flight deals that you can match to your accommodation and activity search. You can literally afford to travel with all the money you'll save, and you'll have enough time to find something fun by letting Dollar Flight Club find the best airfare prices.
Ready for the cherry on top? You can get a two-week Dollar Flight Club Premium membership for just $1! That's long enough to play Best of Both World and see if it works for you. Or maybe you'll get a flight deal for that dream vacation you've always wanted and all you have to do is pull the trigger. Either way, you'll learn a lot in just two short weeks.
The proof is in the pudding
How do we know this works? We've tried it ourselves and found some great holiday ideas. First, we visited our four airports: Huntsville, Nashville, Birmingham, and Atlanta, and waited for the deals to arrive.
Very soon, we got this amazing flight deal from Atlanta to Cancun in our inbox that saves nearly $350 per ticket. That's $700 right on top for both of us.
We love Cancun, or rather, we love that Playa del Carmen gives you the same access to the Yucatan Peninsula without the hotel zones or price gouging of Tulum. It's hard to find a room for under $200 per night in Cancun's hotel zone, but in Playa, there are sets for under $50 per night, and even the 5-star El Taj Oceanfront & Beachside Condo Hotel is just $161 per night.
Let's say we went to a 5 star hotel and in a playa, that would still save about $500 for the week. We have other Riviera Maya tricks, like booking a rental car as soon as you arrive (we got one for $1 a day!) and driving to local cenotes instead of bus tours to Ik Kil ($100 saving), or going for happy hour specials At Alux Restaurant Bar and Lounge (a very cool restaurant in a cave) instead of eating their $$$ food or paying a door charge.
There are many ways to save money in the Riviera Maya, but the hotel savings from staying off the playa and the flight savings with Dollar Flight Club alone would save us $1,200! This is so great, and letting Dollar Flight Club find our flights gives us more time to plan our dream trip to the Riviera Maya.
Final thoughts on the Dollar Flying Club
Where to fish? Dollar Flight Club memberships automatically transition to the Standard Annual Membership. They also renew automatically, so you'll need to set calendar alerts when these dates come up. Saving $500 a ticket even for a regularly priced membership is great. The math says you'll get your money back even if you only use the service once every seven years, but you have to consciously choose whether to renew or not.
Now that they're offering to try the premium version of Dollar Flight Club for just $1 for 14 days, this might be your sign to check it out! We'd love to hear your thoughts. Do you subscribe to our flight deal emails?
