Marist High School faculty, staff and students gathered to host the second annual Celebration of Culture on Thursday, March 14, organized by LaToya Hayes, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Marist.

Celebrating Culture is a student-inspired event that highlights the different cultures and ethnicities at Marist High School. The community-wide event features cultural performances, food samplings and performances. Attendees interact with different cultures by exploring cultural displays, experiencing diverse performances, and tasting ethnic cuisine.

The event was open to all members of the Marist community, the public, and was held in the main gymnasium.

“I like that we made time and space for the Marist community to celebrate and experience different cultures,” Hayes said.

“I hope students feel enlightened, appreciated and celebrated at Marist High School.”

A number of participating students also shared their thoughts about this event.

“I'm so glad we started Celebrating Culture because it gave me the opportunity to celebrate cultures that I had never learned about before,” said Marist student Maris Hollimon.

“I'm so glad we're holding this event this year, and I hope this becomes a lasting tradition here at Marist.”

“Marist’s Culture Night celebration is a way for our student body to honor and explore each other’s differences in a way that is both respectful and fun,” said Jake Tinoco, a senior.

“From sharing food, to music, and even traditions, Cultural Evenings boasts a broad representation of the cultures that many of our students celebrate and cherish.”
