Despite previous talks about Dwayne Johnson potentially throwing his hat into the ring, the actor will not be endorsing anyone in the 2024 presidential election.
After four years of supporting the sitting president, the WWE wrestler told Fox News that he won't be choosing between Joe Biden and Donald Trump this time — at least not publicly.
“The endorsement I did years ago for Biden was a decision I thought was the best decision for me at the time. And I thought at that time, when we're talking about, “Hey, I'm in this position where I have some influence and this is my job at the time.” I felt like that then, my job now is to exercise my influence and be involved with him. “This is who I'm going to support,” Johnson told Will Cain in an interview Friday. “Would I do it again this year? That answer is no.”
“The takeaway after that is that it has caused an incredible amount of division. I realize now that going into this election, I'm not going to do that.” “My goal is to unite this country. I believe in that. There will be no endorsement. At this level of influence, I will keep my policies to myself, as they are between me and the ballot box.”
It is this partisan divide that prevents Johnson from expressing his political opinion one way or another. But he's fine with that.
“Today’s cancel culture, woke culture, division, etc., is something that really bothers me,” he explained. “In the spirit of that, you can either give in to that and be what other people want you to be, or be yourself and be real. That might piss people off and make them angry, and that's okay.”
Regardless of which party ends up getting Johnson's vote next November, The Rock – who filmed the podcast episode from Philadelphia for this year's WrestleMania festival – remains confident that America can live up to its name and become united.
“Am I happy with where America is right now? Well, that answer is no,” he admitted. “Do I think we will get better? I believe it, I am an optimistic man and I believe we can improve.
Johnson added: “But I will tell you this: Like many of us out there, I don't trust all politicians. I trust the American people and whoever they will vote for is my president and who I will support 100 percent.”
“The Will Cain Show” airs live Monday through Thursday at 12 noon EST.
