The April event helps attendees “forge new partnerships, learn valuable information from experts, get inspired, grow the business and make new friends,” says the Culture Alliance leader.
A major conference examining the region's rich arts and cultural scene is being held and celebrated in Midland this month.
Working under the slogan “More Than Entertainment: The Value of Arts and Culture,” the Cultural Alliance will host the day-long event at the Rotary Hall of the Midland Cultural Center on April 19.
Last year's conference was well attended and saw great reviews from those who filled out post-conference surveys, with attendees finding it “inspiring” and a great networking tool, said Liz Cascagnit, cultural development coordinator for the Cultural Alliance in the Heart of Georgian Bay. While also helping with branding and marketing tips while generating lots of ideas for events that benefit the community.
“People who want to forge new partnerships, learn valuable information from experts, get inspired, grow the business and make new friends should attend,” Cascagnit said of the benefits of attending this year's Creative Communities Culture Conference.
“It helps communities as a whole because culture is in everything we do. Creatives want to make an impact through their art, and art is part of the unique and diverse culture in the heart of Georgian Bay.”
The Cultural Alliance wants to make sure it provides opportunities that benefit member communities because “even though we combine art and culture for entertainment, it's about much more than that,” Cascagnit said.
Art and culture help people learn about each other and from each other, Cascagnit said.
“Culture encourages us to learn, grow and communicate,” she said. “This can be achieved through this conference, so that anyone who attends will walk away with something that will interest, inspire and educate them in a positive way.”
The day includes a keynote address from McMichael Canadian Art Collection Deputy Chief Curator Jennifer Withrow along with other speakers on various topics including marketing (showing your value), knowing your value and navigating copyright, and getting the most out of Financing and self-care opportunities. The value of art therapy.
Tickets cost $59 plus taxes and fees afterward. The event is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and includes lunch provided by Roxy Café, and access to all sessions and the keynote.
The conference also demonstrates the coalition's mission of promoting work collaboratively with community partners to identify, highlight and grow the region's unique culture, Cascagnit said.
“Our mission is to recognize and intentionally celebrate our community building by uniting diverse cultures, creators, and organizations (stakeholders and partners) in the heart of Georgian Bay,” she added.
