Drop Nineteens has announced the re-release of their debut album Delaware. It's scheduled for release on June 21 via Wharf Cat, and today, the band shared two new songs: “Nest” and a cover of Lana Del Rey's “White Dress.” Take a listen below.
“Lana is long overdue,” bandleader Greg Achill commented in a statement. “But this song grabbed me and I wouldn't let it go, so I decided to bring it to the band. The band looked at me a little sideways when I suggested covering Lana Del Rey's 'White Dress', but the minute we started thinking about what I had in mind together, they stuck with it.”
He added about “Nest”: “'Nest' was originally intended to either open or close our album Hard Light. When we realized we had a better opener and closer, we couldn't find the right place for it on the album. It's closer to the B-side of 'White Dress”, because it's the last song Drop Nineteens will release for a while, or maybe ever, because you know you never know…the ruminative lyrics make it a perfect fit for this placement.”
The band also changed the album cover art for the reissue, replacing the gun in the girl's hand with flowers. “We decided to change the cover photo, not for self-cancellation, but because we simply wouldn't put a picture of a young man with a gun in his hand out into the world in today's climate,” Ackle said. “To be fair, this concept was probably overdone even in 1992. We love the new cover design, and are proud to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this new Delaware issue to the Artist For Action To Prevent Gun Violence charity.”
Last year, Drop Nineteens released their comeback album, Hard light.
