“The images surrounding Nebraska have always been vivid to me,” Allen said of the song in a statement. “My mom used to tell me how my grandmother used to ride a little horse to school named Daisy. I think it brought awareness to how much the world had changed in such a short time, but it also really upset me as a kid. We would watch Wizard of Oz And I felt that Dorothy was my legacy. A lot of your family stories define you, and a lot of them are incorrect, or you hear them wrong, or you pick up only that part, which was relayed by someone else who only picked up one part. I wanted to play with that. All of these images were about me, me at the center, and none of the sources were reliable.
Allen rose Eight-pointed star With producer Chris Cohen. “As much as you can have willpower and ambition, those things often get in the way of the smoothness of life, of where you're supposed to be,” she added. “You can make yourself dizzy by wanting to be somewhere you're not. With Eight-pointed star I'm trying to harness that beginner's mind again, while bearing the scars and wisdom that come from biting into the fruits of knowledge.
