Marca Blackburn (R-TN), the longest-serving U.S. Senator representing Tennessee, will speak at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. at the second annual Bitcoin Policy Summit hosted by the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI).
According to a press release sent to Bitcoin MagazineBlackburn will participate in a fireside conversation focusing on the current digital asset policy landscape, addressing common misconceptions, regulatory challenges, as well as the future direction of Bitcoin and digital assets in the United States.
Blackburn served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Tennessee's 7th District from 2003 to 2019 and began her term as a senator in 2019 to the present. Blackburn currently serves as the state's senior senator and dean of Tennessee's congressional delegation. In 2022, Blackburn co-sponsored an amendment to the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 alongside Senator Lummis (R-Wis.), a staunch supporter of Bitcoin. The amendment sought to expand the scope of voluntary data reporting from cryptocurrency companies in order to make it easier to identify and respond to cybersecurity threats in the industry.
“Senator Blackburn’s participation underscores the growing importance of Bitcoin in the real economy and the need for it to be properly regulated,” BPI co-founder Grant McCarty said in a statement. Bitcoin Magazine.
The inaugural Bitcoin Policy Summit in 2023 featured prominent policymakers including Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WI), and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN). Bitcoin industry leaders and human rights activists were also in attendance – including: Roya Mahboob (CEO and Co-Founder of the Digital Citizen Fund), Alex Gladstein (Chief Strategy, Human Rights Foundation) and Jack Mallers (CEO, Strike).
This year's summit will be held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. and includes Avik Roy (President of the Equal Opportunity Research Foundation), Mike Brock (CEO of Block's TBD), Sarah Krebs (Director of the Cornell Brooks Technology Policy Institute) and Matthew Baines (Director of Security Consulting In Sentinel One).
