Living in the Bay Area means we all need to be prepared for earthquakes. A company is trying to develop a new form of early detection system.
Q CTRL wants to help warn people before the Earth starts shaking using a tool called quantum sensing. This technology uses atoms, lasers and light particles to detect changes in the Earth's magnetic fields with better accuracy.
The company says it will give earlier warnings than seismographs, which detect tremors while an earthquake is actually occurring.
While quantum sensors could give us better data and more time to take cover, they could be expensive. The devices can also handle allergy issues. The software is still under development and not immediately available to the public. However, the company is working with the USGS to make it available in the future.
