A federal judge earlier this month ruled against Biden's Justice Department and left-wing groups in their lawsuit to stop Arizona's election integrity laws that require proof of citizenship and prevent voters from voting in multiple states.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Arizona Republicans passed HB2492, introduced by state Rep. Jake Huffman, which would require voters to prove U.S. citizenship to register to vote in any election. This law also applies only to federal voters who are not required to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote. The bill was signed into law by former Republican Governor Doug Ducey in March 2022.
The Department of Justice under Joe Biden previously filed a lawsuit against Arizona over this law, claiming that it violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the National Voter Registration Act.
Additionally, HB2243 aims to clean up voter rolls and remove registrants who are registered in another state and no longer live in Arizona. The new law would add a statement on voter registration forms specifying that if a registrant permanently moves to another state after registering in that state, his or her registration will be cancelled.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that a Clinton-appointed federal judge blocked the law from being implemented in the 2022 election.
Critics of these laws claim that they discriminate against minority voters.
However, District Judge Susan Bolton disagreed and carefully concluded that “enhancing public confidence in Arizona elections outweighs the limited burden voters may face when asked to provide assistance.” [documentary proof of citizenship]”.
The Hill newspaper reported,
US District Judge Susan Bolton State lawmakers concluded Thursday that state lawmakers did not discriminate when they adopted voting laws in 2022, and that the state has an interest in preventing voter fraud, the Associated Press reported.
“Considering the evidence as a whole, the Court concludes that Arizona’s interests in preventing noncitizens from voting and promoting public confidence in Arizona elections outweigh the limited burden voters may face when asked to provide assistance.” [documentary proof of citizenship]Bolton wrote.
She said part of the law, which requires individuals using a state registration form to list the state or country in which they were born, violates part of the Civil Rights Act and the National Voter Registration Act “because this provision would result in only naturalized citizens being investigated” based on the county registrar's beliefs. That a naturalized citizen is a non-citizen.
The Justice Department, the Democratic National Committee and voting groups have filed legal challenges to the bills, which were signed by the former governor. Doug Ducey
