Pop icon Madonna welcomed Kylie Minogue to the stage in Los Angeles, in one of the most celebrity-led celebrations of International Women's Day.
The two stars performed a duet of Gloria Gaynor's 1978 anthem I will Survivein addition to Minogue's hit song in 2001 I can't get you out of my head.
Elsewhere, women around the world marked International Women's Day on Friday, participating in strikes, marches and demonstrations that highlighted efforts to combat discrimination and accelerate the campaign for gender equality.
After the performance, Madonna posted on Instagram: “I can't think of a better way to celebrate International Women's Day……….then singing with @kylieminogue….”. on me. Stage last night!!!!
The event, first celebrated in 1911, has its roots in early struggles for equal pay and votes for women.
In Paris, supporters attended a ceremony officially enshrining women's right to abortion in the French constitution.
The initiative was approved overwhelmingly by lawmakers earlier this week, even as the United States and other countries restrict access to abortion.
