    The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Los Angeles County on Thursday as an unusually strong storm moved through the region, meteorologists said.

    The warning, which described a “strong thunderstorm” moving east at 10 mph and bringing possible winds of 55 mph and pea-sized hail, was issued at 4:13 p.m. for areas of Los Angeles County, including San Dimas, Glendora and Pomona. . Nor Verne, Azusa, Covina, and Clermont. The warning is scheduled to expire at 5:16 p.m

    These areas may witness a storm accompanied by strong winds, hail, and heavy rain for a short period.

    The San Fernando Valley experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning between 4 and 4:45 p.m.

    This type of strong, short-lived storm is relatively uncommon in Los Angeles, said Joe Cerar, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.

    “It's unusual, but when we have the right kind of weather pattern, we have all the ingredients,” Cerar said. “The strength of these storms is pretty unusual, I'll say that.”

    The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for areas of Los Angeles County including San Dimas, Glendora, Pomona, West Covina, La Verne, Clermont, Covina, Azusa and Goose. This warning was lifted for some areas around 4:19 p.m

    A flash flood warning has been issued for West Central Los Angeles County, and the weather service said areas that could experience flooding include Encino, Van Nuys, Beverly Hills, North Hollywood, Woodland Hills, Hollywood, the 405 Freeway through Sepulveda Pass, and Bel Air. And Brentwood. , Sherman Oaks, Pacific Palisades, Century City, Studio City, West Hollywood, Canoga Park, Mandeville Canyon, Coldwater Canyon via the Hollywood Hills, Reseda, Topanga Canyon Road via the Santa Monica and Tarzana Mountains. This warning is scheduled to remain in effect until 7 p.m
