Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Mae Simmons, 23, has released a new single called “Tegami.” Check it out along with a live version of the track below.
“‘Tegami’ was the first time I experimented with Bossa Nova style music in odd meters,” Simons explained in a statement. “It's a love song. My partner likes to write me letters, but I'm not good at replying to letters. So I wrote this song instead, hence the name of the song 'Tegami' which means 'letter' in Japanese. “I think the range of style is remarkable Really into this song, which is one of our most ambitious string arrangements with a lot of complex lines and textures.”
“Tegami” will appear on Simones' Bayonet Records debut, Kabutomushiwhich will be released on April 5, along with the previously released “Inaka.”
