A small area of low pressure moves toward the East Coast on Tuesday bringing scattered showers.

Our east and northeast breeze continues to keep drizzle, low clouds, fog and cool temperatures, especially across the coast and eastern New England, keeping us feeling cooler throughout the day.

More rain will fill in during the afternoon and into the evening from the southwest to the northeast. High temperatures remain in the low 40s. By Wednesday, our temperatures warm up a bit into the high 50s and low 60s, as we see a break in rain and some sunshine as we sit between systems.

Wednesday night, we have two systems moving. One of them has a weak border from the northwest. At the same time, a coastal depression is moving from the south. Heavy rain and wind will bring us into Thursday morning and our first alert day. We may see 1 to 3 inches of rain as well as 40 to 50 mph throughout the day as temperatures drop into the 40s.

With heavy rain, there is a risk of some flooding in southeastern New England in low-lying areas, around rivers or streams and in urban areas.

Drier air returns briefly Friday with some sun and highs in the 40s again. Although a few oceanic-effect snow flurries can be found across Cape Cod.

Another system moves in this weekend, with rain chances Saturday evening into Sunday and highs in the low 40s.

Cold air in southern New England wraps around the back side of a more powerful area of low pressure, and this time we could see some snow showers across the Northeast Sunday night into Monday.

Stay tuned for more on the timing of these storms.
