The gallery above shows the aftermath of the largest recorded wildfire in Texas history.

Called the Smokehouse Creek Fire, the wildfire burned an area larger than the state of Rhode Island. While firefighters work to bring the fire under control, authorities are piecing together the full scope of the incident's aftermath as they search the remains of destroyed buildings for additional victims.

Many towns were severely damaged by the fire, including Fritsch, where an entire section of the city was largely burned to the ground.

We will continue to update this slideshow with more photos of the fire's impact on Texas Panhandle communities, so check back frequently.

The Weather Company's primary journalistic mission is to report on breaking weather news, the environment, and the importance of science in our lives.
