Weather permitting to begin field work in Iowa

February 27, 2024 by John Perkins Filed under: Ag Weather, Iowa, News, USDA

Field work is already underway in Iowa.

The USDA says Iowa farmers took advantage of the weather to apply fertilizer and manure, with some starting to till and even planting oats.

The eastern half of the state generally saw better precipitation than western areas, but there are concerns about soil moisture before corn and soybeans are planted.

Grain movement has increased compared to January, while livestock conditions are good with reports of calves.

USDA's weekly crop progress and status reports resume in April.
