Polk County is seeking public input on various configurations to improve safety along the inappropriate and unsignalized intersections at North Galloway and Swindell roads.
There will be a public meeting on Tuesday from 6-8pm in the Winston Engineering Academy auditorium at 3415 Swindle Road in Lakeland. The meeting was scheduled for January 9 but was postponed due to severe storms.
Currently, the routes come together in two places north of Interstate 4 and west of the Lakeland city limits. One idea to improve safety and traffic flow is to add a roundabout at the southern intersection of the roads and a traffic signal at the northern intersection.
Another option was to create a bypass through the wooded area west of Galway and extend Swindle south to Lazy Oaks Lane – perhaps linking it to the North Frontage Road.
After introductory remarks and a brief overview of the project, participants can view exhibits of different configurations and ask questions of district staff and consulting engineers. Galloway Road becomes Airport Road south of the Tampa Expressway.
Public feedback is strongly encouraged. The two-week comment period ends March 12.
