DENVER (KDVR) — The weather in Denver will remain warm and windy, increasing the risk of fires through Monday. Then, temperatures will drop with a cold front, providing the opportunity for rain and snow.
Red flag warnings are scheduled to go back into effect Monday due to relative humidity falling to about 10 percent, and wind speeds reaching more than 50 mph at times.
Conditions will be conducive for fires to spread quickly, so it is advised to avoid open burning and any activity that could spark and ignite a wildfire.
Weather tonight: fresh, moderate
Sunday night will remain mainly clear and breezy with winds gusting from the southwest to about 30 mph. Temperatures will only drop to around 40 degrees, much closer to seasonal high temperatures than the lows.
The weather tomorrow: fresh and warm
On Monday, Denver will continue this trend of remaining sunny, dry and warm. High temperatures will rise into the upper 60s, which is about 20 degrees warmer than normal for this time of year and just shy of the current record of 71 degrees set in 1950.
Looking ahead: Snow showers before another warm-up
Snow will fall in the mountains Monday through Tuesday.
Winter storm warnings are already in place on both days with snowfall totals reaching a foot or two, with blowing snow limiting visibility and making travel more difficult.
Rain will begin to move into the Denver metro area on Tuesday. The precipitation will start out as a mix of rain and snow, then as temperatures drop during the day, it will turn to snow.
Snowfall totals will remain light in Denver and in the eastern Plains due to rain starting out as a mix, as well as this stretch of warm weather making accumulation difficult on the road.
The snow showers will end Tuesday night, leaving behind a cold start into Wednesday morning, and cooler but more seasonable high temperatures in the mid 40s Wednesday afternoon.
Sunshine returns to the forecast on Wednesday, followed by a warm trend. Highs will rise to the 60 degree mark on Thursday and then return to the mid 60s Friday into Saturday.
