New Disney X-Men '97 The cartoon will feature a “non-binary” character.
The show will be rated TV-14.
According to Bounding Into Comics, “showrunner Beau DeMayo revealed that unlike the original series, the upcoming revival will portray the mutant variant Morph as a non-binary individual.”
The report explains:
Unfortunately, although this ill-considered change is certainly disappointing, it cannot be said that it is completely unexpected.
After all, as DeMayo mentioned during Marvel's 2023 livestream event regarding the series, one of his goals with X-Men '97 It was “just to rectify that and really delve into what I think the X-Men will always be about, which is, you know, we talk a lot about the dream which is social acceptance and social justice.”
“I think that can make some people feel alienated at times, and for me, it will always be about the X-Men and what we're going to try to do in this series is talk about the power of empathy and show how it can heal these wounds that turn people against each other.” “Things like racism and bigotry don't 'exist' — there's a reason why that's because empathy can help us kind of connect and build those bridges where we can actually say, 'Hey, we're all different, but we have these bridges.'” The Little Things That can still connect us to each other.”
Morph, a shapeshifter, originally presented himself as male in the original series – although he can change himself into characters of another gender as part of his abilities.
The character is also promoted as having an interesting friendship with Wolverine.
Identifier if Morph is binary or non-binary. What I have a problem with is that if they push the relationship between Morph and Wolverine in order to wake up and with Disney's track record, that's what will eventually happen♂️. They will destroy Wolverine. a prayer pic.twitter.com/dhrrAa2pfp
