Mr. Speed Star Clive Owen has teased the possibility of a second season of his hit AMC detective series.

The new crime series follows an older Sam Spade, the detective made famous in author Dashiell Hammett's 1930 novel. Maltese falcon.

Mr. Speed It was an original story starring the character, bringing the famous literary detective out of retirement in the south of France, while Spade pursues a twisted web of criminal conspiracy revolving around a mysterious young boy.

In a recent interview on the official AMC blog, Mr. Speed Star Clive Owen has revealed his thoughts on reprising the role in season two.

When asked about wearing the character's iconic fedora again, Owen said he and series creator Scott Frank wore it “I talked a little about it.” But they are “Just waiting to see how it goes:”

“I'd like to go back to San Francisco and investigate something from his past. To be honest, Scott and I have already talked a little bit about it… but everyone's just waiting to see how it goes, because there's definitely some stuff going on.” Exciting possibilities about where we can take him.”

This seems to indicate that the future of the series could depend on the reception of the first season.

Speaking about the idea of more Sam Spade stories, Owen told The Daily Beast: “The beauty of something like this is that once you set it up, you can take it anywhere. The options are really exciting and open:”

“The beauty of something like this is that once you set it up, you can take it anywhere. The options are really exciting and open. We're not in a world where we have to keep replicating this world. 'We can throw Spade anywhere and go, how would you handle him if he was in that situation?' Or in this environment? So the potential to do more is more interesting than if it were something that was really confined.”

As for where the actor wants to go next with the character, Owen reiterated Sam Spade's hometown “San Francisco:”

“I wouldn't mind going back to San Francisco!”

Will there be a second season of Monsieur Spade?

While AMC and Mr. Speed The team may still be watching the first season of the crime drama coming to a close, and fans' eyes will almost certainly start turning to the idea of a second season.

The second batch of episodes has not been announced yet, but it seems like it's bound to happen at this point.

When Clive Owen says they are “Waiting to see how things go.” Before committing to anything beyond the first season, he's probably referring to the significant reception and viewership numbers for his first outing as the iconic detective.

If so, a second season seems very likely. The series has a rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been on the talk of television viewers since its debut.

Now that Season 1 is over, AMC can get its ducks in a row and seriously consider whether it wants to get back into business with Mr. Speed crew.

The first season of the TV thriller left things open enough that setting up a new story for a potential second season wouldn't be that difficult.

And with a first season that takes Sam Spade – a character traditionally known for his detective exploits in 20th-century San Francisco – outside his home country and into the south of France, Owen may be onto something with his team. “[going] “Back to San Francisco” an idea.

This call to the detective could be an interesting way to honor Sam Spade's literary past while doing so in a new way.

Mr. Speed It is now streaming on AMC+.
