“The beauty of something like this is that once you set it up, you can take it anywhere. The options are really exciting and open. We're not in a world where we have to keep replicating this world. 'We can throw Spade anywhere and go, how would you handle him if he was in that situation?' Or in this environment? So the potential to do more is more interesting than if it were something that was really confined.”
As for where the actor wants to go next with the character, Owen reiterated Sam Spade's hometown “San Francisco:”
“I wouldn't mind going back to San Francisco!”
Will there be a second season of Monsieur Spade?

When Clive Owen says they are “Waiting to see how things go.” Before committing to anything beyond the first season, he's probably referring to the significant reception and viewership numbers for his first outing as the iconic detective.
If so, a second season seems very likely. The series has a rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been on the talk of television viewers since its debut.
Now that Season 1 is over, AMC can get its ducks in a row and seriously consider whether it wants to get back into business with Mr. Speed crew.
The first season of the TV thriller left things open enough that setting up a new story for a potential second season wouldn't be that difficult.
And with a first season that takes Sam Spade – a character traditionally known for his detective exploits in 20th-century San Francisco – outside his home country and into the south of France, Owen may be onto something with his team. “[going] “Back to San Francisco” an idea.
This call to the detective could be an interesting way to honor Sam Spade's literary past while doing so in a new way.
