Just a few days ago, it was revealed that New York City Mayor Eric Adams plans to give illegal border crossers debit cards worth up to $10,000.
Now the City Council says, not so fast. They want an investigation into the scheme, particularly the no-bid banking deal that is the basis of this action.
People in New York should have questions, too. You can imagine that council members received quite a few phone calls from angry city residents.
Breitbart News reports:
New York City Council calls for investigation into Mayor Eric Adams' plan to hand out $10,000 worth of prepaid debit cards to illegal immigrants
As backlash continues over Democratic Mayor Eric Adams' plan to give illegal border crossers in city shelters prepaid debit cards, ostensibly to use to buy food, City Council members have requested an investigation into the scheme.
Adams proposed his new policy in early February, insisting that a program that would allow undocumented immigrants to feed themselves would save the city millions of dollars in often wasted food service costs.
The mayor estimated that the prepaid cards would cost the city $53 million, and would allow immigrants to spend $35 a day, or $1,000 a month, to buy food to prepare for themselves, instead of getting prepared meals provided by the city. .
However, one part of the program that raised eyebrows was the no-bid contract Adams assigned to launch the program.
According to WLNY-TV, Councilman Gale Brewer criticized the mayor for awarding the contract, saying, “I think you should put in a bid to see who's going to do the best job at the best cost to the taxpayers.”
Who can blame people for wanting to know more about what's going on here?

The $53 million contract will give Mobility Capital Finance, which the New York mayor describes as “minority-owned,” a lot of fees for services, including:

This plan has bad idea written all over it. It's clearly ripe for a scam.
