Authorities declared a yellow alert after the Popocatepetl volcano in Mexico spewed a 3-kilometer (1.86-mile) plume of ash and gas on Wednesday evening.
It has flared up two to three times a day for about a week.
Located just 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) from Mexico City, Popocatepetl is one of the most dangerous and active volcanoes in the country.
Residents in southern Puebla were warned to be careful of falling ash and not to approach the volcano.
In May 2023, ash emissions from Popocatepetl led local authorities to close schools in 11 nearby towns and temporarily close Mexico City and Puebla airports.
