President Donald Trump took the stage at the Greenville Convention Center on Tuesday for a pre-recorded town hall event hosted by Fox News Channel's Laura Ingraham.
During the interview, Trump discussed a variety of pressing issues, but particularly drew attention when detailing his criteria for selecting a vice presidential nominee for the 2024 election.
Ingraham asked about Trump's priorities for vice president and whether he was considering reversing Biden's pledge to choose a female vice president.
Trump stressed the importance of choosing someone who can serve as a competent president immediately if necessary. He praised Senator Tim Scott, who was in the audience, for his support and effectiveness, hinting at his potential as a vice presidential candidate.
Laura Ingraham: When Biden ran, he pledged that he would choose a female vice president in 2020. What qualities do you look for in your running mate?
trump card: Well, the first quality should always be someone who you think will be a good boss because if something happens, you have to have someone who will be a great boss. A lot of people talk about that gentleman over there [Tim Scott]. He was much better for me than he was for himself. I watched his campaign, and he doesn't like to talk about himself, but boy, does he talk about Trump. I called him. I said, “Tim, you're better for me than you were for yourself.” he is a wonderful person.”

Ingraham noted that the public mentioned several names as good choices for vice president, including businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Rep. Byron Donalds, former South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, and former Democratic representative Tulsi Gabbard.
When pressed on whether this list matches his short list and when an announcement is expected, Trump said it was his short list and offered a noncommittal response, emphasizing the limited impact of the vice presidential pick on the presidential race but acknowledging the importance of the role and the qualities he looks for in a nominee. .
Ingraham: The audience was asked who they thought would be a good choice, and different names came up. One of them was, of course, Vivek Ramaswamy. It caused quite a stir. Ron DeSantis, who will be appearing today in South Carolina, we just found out. Obviously Tim Scott, Byron Donalds, and a big presence here for Tulsi Gabbard. so interesting. I also have to say Kristi Noem. Are they all on your short list?
trump card: they.
Ingraham: When do we expect you to announce your selection?
trump card: One thing that always surprises me is that the choice of vice president has no effect at all. It's who's boss. Apparently, I remember when Sarah Palin was actually chosen, and she had a big thing, and then they hounded her on a level that no one saw. “The Republicans themselves followed what they did.”
trump card: I think this is very important. But look, first, as we said, it's about who he is. It is a very important position. For this reason, you want to hire someone who can help you from a voter's perspective. And honestly, all of these people are good. They are all good. They are all solid. And I always say I want people with common sense because there are a lot of things happening in this country that don't make sense.
