    Cars were set on fire as riots broke out between two rival groups of Eritreans in the Netherlands on Saturday.

    Officers used tear gas in an attempt to quell the unrest The HagueWhile rioters set fire to police cars and a bus.

    Pictures from the scene showed burning cars and dozens of men in the street, some throwing stones.

    “It's seriously out of control,” said Robin Middel, spokesman for The Hague municipality.

    He said that a group loyal to the Eritrean government was holding a meeting when the place was attacked by Eritreans opposed to the country's government.

    Police spokeswoman Christiane Van Planken said she could not determine whether anyone had been injured or any rioters had been arrested.

    Dozens of people, including at least 26 police officers, were injured during disturbances at an Eritrean cultural festival in the German city of Eritrea. Stuttgart in September last year.

    A fight that took place in the same month between supporters of the Eritrean government and its opponents in Tel Aviv led to violent confrontations in the streets between asylum seekers and African migrants.

    Months earlier, a clash at an Eritrean festival in the German city of Giessen resulted in the injury of 22 policemen.

    Tens of thousands of people fled Eritrea As for Europe, many claim that they have been mistreated by the government of President Isaias Afwerki.

    The conflicts highlight deep divisions among members of the Eritrean community between those who remain close to the government and those who have fled to live in exile and staunchly oppose it.
