OMU is preparing to replace the water tower at Hillcrest Golf Course with some initial developments.
During the committee meeting, officials purchased some materials needed for construction. Development costs are being paid for by the $2.5 million ARPA funds the utility received from the city of Owensboro.
The cost of the project is $1.5 million out of $2.5 million.
When the upgrades are complete, OMU anticipates increased water pressure in the Hillcrest, Rago Drive and Highland areas. According to General Manager Tim Lyons, they will accomplish this by building two pumping stations on Rago Drive and Old Hartford Road.
To get this extra pressure, the authority agreed to purchase 6,000 feet of pipe. 4,000 feet will be located in the Hillcrest area, while the remaining 2,000 feet will be located near Rago Drive.
The Hillcrest District pipes will run between Old Hartford Road and East Byers Street. The installation runs alongside the David C. Green Belt. Adkisone, which may cause some shutdowns, although it is not known how many shutdowns will be required.
Transport and delivery engineering manager Joe Janes said they would try to keep the greenbelt as open as possible.
“We'll have crews in that area, and we definitely want to maintain a safe work site and keep the people there safe, but we don't want to limit it if we don't have to,” Janes said.
According to Janes and production manager Ross Evans, OMU plans to finish preliminary work in April and finish the entire project by sometime next fiscal year.
“We are looking at the February or March timeframe of next year for installation. During that time, we will be placing the concrete and pipes and getting everything ready, so when [the final pieces] “If we show up, we'll get things on the road and get the project moving,” Evans said.
