Communication time and convergence between operational technology
The simple definition of Industry 4.0, often known as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is the use of digital technologies during the industrial process to produce higher quality outputs at a lower cost. Although the automation of manufacturing processes has been the result of advances in electronics, information (IT) and operational technologies (OT) over the past 70 years, it is recent improvements in digital technologies that have begun to expand the scope of disruption. To achieve significant cost savings and increased productivity but also revenue opportunities and new business models, industrial organizations must increase connectivity, democratize data and automate their business processes while remaining resilient to cybersecurity threats impacting the industry.
To achieve the above benefits of connected, intelligent and agile manufacturing, organizations are integrating not only IT and OT management techniques, but also integrating OT and Internet core organizations and processes. As of 2021, 9 out of 10 companies believe that digitalization brings more opportunities than risks, while 97% of industrial area executives indicate that the biggest challenge to technology adoption is integrating new and old technologies from different eras (57%).
