Tonight is the premiere of the final season of the beloved TV show “Blue Bloods,” which has been on CBS since 2010. And in preparation, “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg is opening up about the strong bond they share. With his co-star Tom Selleck, who became a father figure to him on and off screen.

    Wahlberg's association with Selleck

“Tom Selleck, I call him dad,” Wahlberg, 54, told Fox News. “At first he was a little emotional about the first or second season, and he was like, ‘Oh, hey, Donny.’ And now it’s like we’ve gotten a lot closer.”

He continued: “He would literally say: ‘Oh, son, how are you today?’” “It's like we've just become a real family, and it'll be hard not to be with them [them] anymore, but I'm sure we'll stay in touch after the cameras stop.

Wahlberg went on to describe what it's like to work on a show with an “icon” like Selleck, who rose to fame starring in “Magnum P.I.” in the 1980s.

“Tom, you know, is an icon in many ways. First of all, you know, when you think about television and how many people have had two series – two TV series – with that level of success, R“There have been very few people in the history of television who have had two long-running, wildly successful television shows,” Wahlberg explained. “You can probably count them on one hand, and Tom Selleck is one of them.”

The cast of 'Blue Bloods' became a 'real family'

Wahlberg also said that the rest of the “Blue Bloods” crew had become a “real family” after filming together for fourteen years.

“The cast and crew — there's just something about coming to work every day in New York with this crew that we have, many of whom have been here 14 years,” Wahlberg said. “It's incredible to work with them. The cast is exceptional. They're like a real family.”

The cast and crew have become so close that Wahlberg has a hard time imagining not filming with them anymore.

“We've been through so much together that the thought of not coming to work with people I've worked with for so long is going to hit me in the heart sometime soon,” he admitted. “I'm really enjoying the ride now and trying not to go there emotionally.”

Selleck isn't 'ready to say goodbye' to 'blue bloods'

Last month, Selleck spoke candidly about how difficult it was to see Blue Bloods come to an end.

“CBS will find a large number of people not ready to say goodbye,” the 79-year-old star told TV Insider. “The show is more popular than ever, I think [numbers] It will increase with interest this year. We certainly haven't run out of ideas.

“I'm not counting the days until I can do something else. “I love working,” he added. “Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I'm older, but so what? “I want to work as long as they stay with me.”

Selleck also spoke about his famous “Blue Bloods” character Frank Reagan, saying that he “chooses fights because he would like someone to bear the burden of that responsibility.” [off] his hands and shot him. But he has an excessive sense of responsibility and he clings to it.
