After a cold week, the D.C. area can expect to see an accumulation of snowflakes to add to the inches it has already seen this season.
There's more snow waiting for Presidents Day weekend.
Here's what you need to know.
A winter weather advisory goes into effect Saturday, when “an inch or two of snow will likely be on the ground by dawn,” according to 7News meteorologist Brian Van de Graaf. A National Weather Service winter storm watch is also in effect in northwest Maryland.
Outside of the breezy conditions and shower/spray conditions are quiet though tonight. Snow chances return late Friday evening into Saturday morning. More on snow totals/timing below and at https://t.co/ZOlvEShgSf. #MDwx #VAwx #WVwx #DCwx pic.twitter.com/gc9d4ez3El

“Brace for widespread snowfall of 1 to 3 inches, with areas at higher elevations receiving a bit more,” 7News Meteorologist Steve Rudin said.
“The bulk of the snow will fall during the overnight hours, and snowfall will end between 6 and 8 a.m.,” Van de Graaf said.
Plan for a windy day on Saturday with wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph. High temperatures will be below average, only reaching the upper 30s to lower 40s, and wind chills will remain below freezing throughout the day, Van de Graaf added.
On Sunday, temperatures start to be very cold early in the morning, with temperatures reaching a peak in the twenties.
“High temperatures Sunday afternoon will return to the upper 40s to around 50 degrees with a strong southwesterly breeze,” Van de Graaf said. “The wind chill will be close to 40 degrees, so it will still be pretty cold, but at least the higher sun angle should make it feel a little better in the sunlight.”
Monday's Presidents' Day holiday is expected to be “sunnier and milder with temperatures in the low 50s,” Van de Graaf said.
Climate prediction:
Friday:
Clouds increasing
Heights: 47-52
Wind: northwesterly 5 – 15 knots per hour
Clouds will increase on Friday before another, more powerful weather maker will bring snow to the area starting very late Friday evening, from west to east. The weather will be dry for most of the day with highs reaching 50 degrees.
Friday night:
Snow, 1-3″ before sunrise
Lows: 30-35
Wind: East 5 – 10 knots per hour
The snow is expected to increase steadily and may become moderate at times after midnight. This fast-moving weather maker will likely issue a winter weather warning from the National Weather Service. Prepare for widespread snowfall of 1 to 3 inches, with areas at higher elevations receiving slightly more. If any rain mixes with the snow, the overall accumulation will be less. Temperatures will range between the lower and middle 30s.
Saturday:
The snow ends by 9am
Mostly sunny, windy
Highest: close to forty
Wind: northwesterly 10 to 20, reaching speeds of 30 miles per hour
Any remaining snow showers will end quickly before 9am. As the skies clear and the sun shines, the winds will increase, giving way to temperatures in the 20s and 30s. There may be winds exceeding 30 mph, while actual air temperatures are close to 40 degrees.
