Follow up for 2019 cheater Produced by Chris Cody. According to a press release, the four-year process that led to the album's completion nearly broke the band: “This journey left their relationships with each other strained, with many complex dynamics of family, friendship and finances intertwined, along with doubts and resentments.” And wounded egos and troubling questions.”
The album's title is a reference to Daniel Quinn's 1996 novel B story. “If you drop a frog into a pot of boiling water, of course it will try to climb out frantically,” the band explained. “But if you place him gently in a pot of lukewarm water and turn down the heat, the frog will sink into a peaceful stupor, just like one of us in a hot bath, and soon with a smile on his face, he will allow himself without resistance to be boiled to death.
They added: “We understand that the metaphor is a slow, sick and very banal collapse of society under end-stage capitalism, brutal realities that we may have come to accept as normal.” “This is boiling water and we're the frogs. The album is a collection of snapshots from different angles of our modern state that we believe highlights what this collapse looks like, and more specifically, what it looks like.”
