The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Alpena County and the surrounding area, including Presque Isle, Montmorency and Alcona counties.
The weather alert goes into effect at 4am on Thursday and is scheduled to be canceled at 4pm later in the day, unless weather forces an extension of notice, watches or other warnings.
Up to seven inches of heavy snow is expected Thursday, which could create dangerous travel conditions in the morning and afternoon.
The snow is expected to be heavy and difficult to shovel due to the moderate temperatures that will accompany the storm. Temperatures are expected to continue to dip into the 30s to the greatest extent today.
