A car crashed into an A&E department in Texas, killing one person and injuring five others.

A child is in life-threatening condition after a car crashed into the emergency room lobby at St. David's North Austin Medical Center shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver received CPR but died at the hospital.

Four of the injured, two adults and two children, were transferred to other hospitals.

Officials said one of the adults suffered “serious, potentially life-threatening injuries.”

The incident is being investigated, and the Austin Police Department says it appears to be unintentional.

Eight patients who were already undergoing treatment at the hospital were transferred to other facilities.

Dr. Peter De Jong, chief medical officer at St. David's Hospital, said that although the emergency department doors were damaged and the aquarium inside was damaged, the building was in good condition.

No ambulances were being accepted but the emergency department was still receiving patients who would be treated in a temporary triage area in the ambulance bay.

“We hope to regroup here overnight and see where tomorrow leaves us,” Dr. De Jong said.
