“I was listening to a lot of music at the time by Philip Glass and Deerhof that plays on the relationship between tension and resolution which definitely influenced this song,” Pendlebury said of “Ride” in a statement. “I longed for honesty and authenticity in the relationships I had with people, perhaps partly because at the time, like everyone, we were so isolated from each other. But it was also deeper than that, like the conversations I dreamed of that stripped us of all The etiquette we've been clinging to so tightly has gone below the surface where the more interesting parts of ourselves tend to be suppressed.
The track comes with a music video directed by Luke Kulukundis and Mateo Villanueva Brandt of External Body Productions. They commented, “The film explores themes of alienation through the desire and fear of connection.” “The strangeness of togetherness in the context of a monotonous city, steeped in capitalist claustrophobia and absurd worldliness.”
