Chicago-based experimental musician Bill McKay has announced his new album, Land of locusts, which will be released on May 24 on Drag City. The album follows MacKay's 2019 solo LP Fountain fire In addition to 2023 albums from his band Black Duck (Black duck) and BMC (Foreign smoke). Today, McKay shared the new song “When I Was Here,” along with a video directed by Mikel Patrick Avery. Check it out below.

Speaking about the new track, McKay said in a statement: “If you could return to your hometown and early magical places, you might see the rest of your life from before. Are the people there? What is the meaning of what you've been through? It may be eternal and will always be a part of you.” Adventures leave new worlds in their wake, but they're not for everyone. Paths vary and change, but there are eras and experiences that never leave you.

“While making Land of locusts “I've made progress,” MacKay added. “I've seen that I can really let go of a lot of things without losing the fun in them, and make something new in a huge way. So it's really about paving a new path. “I'm making my own revolution in life and song.”
