A forecast change has increased the overall snow forecast by the National Weather Service for an overnight storm Monday into Tuesday in North Jersey.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning, effective from midnight tonight until 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Residents across Warren and Morris counties are advised to prepare for heavy snowfall and potentially hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, large snow accumulations ranging from 7 to 10 inches and up to 13 inches are expected in some locations. In particular, northern Warren and Morris counties will likely bear the brunt of the storm's impact.

How many inches of snow Tuesday?

Some snow forecast totals by city, according to the National Weather Service, include:

    • West Milford: 13 inches
    • Desire: 12 inches
    • Paramus: 10 inches
    • Morristown: 8-12 inches
    • Newark: 8 inches
    • Kennedy Airport: 6 inches

In addition to heavy snowfall, the storm is expected to be accompanied by gusty winds of up to 35 miles per hour. These strong winds have the potential to increase travel difficulties and contribute to reduced visibility.

Of particular concern is forecasts of snowfall rates exceeding one inch per hour at times during Tuesday morning. This rapid buildup can lead to dangerous driving conditions, especially along major transportation arteries such as the I-78 and I-80 corridors. We call on travelers to exercise caution and consider alternative travel plans if possible.

Local authorities and emergency services are on high alert and are advising residents to prepare accordingly for the impending winter weather. This includes making sure vehicles are equipped with proper winter tires or chains and stocking up on essential supplies to weather the storm safely at home.

The NWS stresses the importance of staying informed of weather updates and responding to any advisories or advisories issued by local authorities. As the situation continues to evolve, individuals are encouraged to monitor trusted information sources for the latest updates and advice.
