The Texas Republican Party on Saturday formally censured House Speaker Dade Phelan for impeaching Attorney General Ken Paxton.
The final vote came with a majority of 55 votes, 4 against, and 4 abstentions.
“The Texas Republican Party formally censured Rep. Dade Phelan today, imposing the full range of sanctions permitted by the rules, for his disloyalty to Republican principles and priorities. Texas Republican Party Rule 44 allows the party to censure elected officials who violate the principles and priorities of the Texas Republican Party Three or more times in the specified biennium. Rep. Phelan's censure includes details of five such cases on issues such as impeachment of Ken Paxton, Democratic committee chairs, border security, and educational freedom,” the Texas Republican Party said in a news release.
Remember, Dade Phelan showed up on the Texas House floor last year drunk and slurring his words.

Paxton last May called for Dade Phelan's resignation after Texans were “appalled to witness his performance presiding over the Texas House in a state of apparent debilitating intoxication.”
Two days later, Dade Phelan and other RINOs announced in the Texas House of Representatives that they would vote on a resolution to impeach Ken Paxton on baseless charges.
The 20 articles include “bribery, unfitness for office, and abuse of public trust” – according to the Associated Press.
