    Carl Weathers' cause of death was recently revealed on his death certificate. The actor died from complications of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a condition that causes the arteries to harden. Carl had suffered from heart disease for many years, according to The Blast.

    Withers died on February 1, 2024, and the news was confirmed by his family members. The family also shared a statement at the time, which read in part:

    “Karl was an extraordinary human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he left an indelible mark and is recognized around the world and across generations.”

    Also known as atherosclerosis, this disease is the result of plaque buildup and may not show symptoms until a person suffers a heart attack, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

    The circumstances leading to Carl Weathers' death were not officially revealed when his family confirmed his death. But the latest updates indicate that he died after suffering from cardiovascular disease.

    The Cleveland Clinic states that the primary cause of the disease is damage to the inner lining of the artery. This condition may affect anyone between the ages of 45 and 84, although early treatment can reduce complications.

    Individuals most at risk of developing atherosclerosis are those with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and metabolic syndrome.

    Moreover, anyone who has a smoking habit or does not participate in any type of physical activity is also at risk of contracting the disease.

    It should be noted that Karl suffered an injury while working on the film Happy Gilmore. He revealed in an interview with British GQ magazine in 2020 that there were two stunt bags involved in the accident as the bag was not pushed against the wall, which led to Karl colliding with something. He also mentioned:

    “I broke two vertebrae and the bone grew and connected and kind of self-fuse in a really bad place. It was three or four years where I was in excruciating pain.”
